My first two weddings of 2016 took place in the beautiful country of Guatemala and because I didn’t have anything scheduled in between them, I decided to stick around. I ended up spending over 6 weeks in Central America, adventuring out to Belize & Honduras as well. Even with that much time accumulated, I still can’t wait to go back because that is how special of an area it is. Andrea & Chris found me through a referral and I am thankful that our paths were able to cross. A testament to how amazing they are is shown by the 180 guests that flew from all over to be a part of their big day. The day before the wedding we roamed the streets taking photos to assure that we could give Antigua the proper time it deserves. The wedding itself was held at Casa Santo Domingo but we ventured out to Santa Clara for the first look. During the sunset Catholic ceremony we could hear the volcano erupting, which sounds like thunder, an experience never to be forgotten. As soon as the reception began the dance floor was full, people from Ohio certainly know how to party. It only stopped after 2am when the venue basically had to kick us out. I would party with these kids any day.

Lena, Josh, & I first met over a 3 hour consultation at a coffee shop in Austin. It didn’t feel like 3 hours because we immediately hit it off chatting only briefly about their upcoming wedding but mostly about fashion, life, & their adorable dog Ivan (which you can see on her IG account here). With that shout out I must give another to her popular makeup instagram account as well @passionpout – she knows all the good stuff. Keeping up to date with her awesome style will hopefully cause it to rub off on me! Lena & Josh had a small wedding with their closest friends and family which made me being there feel even more important. The ceremony was at Chapel Dulcinea, a cute little chapel with an epic view of the hill country, & their reception was at one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, Malverde. Good friends, good food, good people, a recipe for a beautiful and heartfelt wedding.

Mimi and Conor got married on an amazingly beautiful day this past January at Las Capuchinas in Antigua Guatemala, one of my favorite wedding venues in… the world. They had never been to Guatemala before but they trusted their guts, their wedding planner of I Do Guatemala, & the photos they had seen online. Having met in Iraq I consider them both fellow nomads, like myself, they’re current location is just as hard to track down as mine!  Conor was persistent after 2 years of friendship with Mimi and after a random trip to Belize they started dating. We first met in Washington DC for their engagement session exactly 2 months before their wedding day. Mimi has an infectious spirit and a light-heartedness that makes what can potentially be a stressful day, like a wedding, feel like a breeze and Conor, despite a recent injury, was killing it on the dance floor. Right before the ceremony started the Aguacate volcano began to erupt with smoke, as Mimi said “it’s every girl’s dream to have a volcano erupt on her wedding day”. After the wedding we all took the trip to Lake Atitlan for a sunrise/5:30am ‘day after’ session so Mimi and Conor could jump into the lake. It was the perfect way to solidify them ‘taking the plunge’ of marriage together and I can’t wait to see where their next adventure brings them. :)

We hung out with Kirstin & Kyle for three days over the course of their wedding weekend from rehearsal to morning after brunch. When Kirstin talked about the theme or style of her wedding she told the planners at Much Ado Austin “fire”. When she talked to Ben & I about the big day she mentioned how important throwing a good party was. Fire & party, the perfect wedding description to appeal to adventure seeking photographers like ourselves. The wedding was one of the first weddings held at the Greenhouse at Driftwood, a wonderful venue managed by the super sweet Harper. Kirstin & Kyle had a light-hearted ceremony officiated by a family friend that rolled into a fabulous seated dinner at twilight and a raging dance party with live music. As amazing as the entire day was it still had to end with bang! After an 8 minute firework show, fireworks to get in their vintage car, & fireworks to drive away to it was a truly amazing finale.
