It was much to my delight when I walked into Andia’s getting ready room to see a familiar face. Andia’s new sister-in-law had some pretty famous dance moves at a wedding I shot in Puerto Rico almost 5 years ago. I am so grateful that they have all kept me in their photography family. Andia & Patrick had their ceremony at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart & their reception at the Crowne Plaza (medical center) in Houston. Following the Catholic ceremony they had a Zoroastrian ceremony to represent Andia’s Iranian side of the family. They had large, 400 person, event full of amazing food and dancing late into the night, just a perfectly beautiful day.

Just like with any job that there ever was, some days are easier than others. Some days I see a daunting to do list of taxes to pay, spreadsheets to update, & e-mails to send. Running a photography business is so much more than meets the eye and it’s difficult to accurately depict how chaotic and inconsistent it can be. It truly is… a labor of love. With those overwhelming down days comes highs that outweigh any low. Days like Lauren & Tom’s are the highs of my job, hands down. Lauren has been following me since the days that I was ‘Sweet Caroline Photo’. While that is at least 5 years, I shot her good friend’s wedding in 2010 so I’ll bet it’s been closer to 7. I am well aware that it is terribly sappy of me to say that that fact makes me a bit weepy. She said that my photos were a huge part of the reason that she had a wedding in the first place, to be able to remember a time they could bring their family & friends together to celebrate. Lauren & I chose her wedding date, hoping to not end up with a 100 degree day and where they should have their engagement photos taken. (Tulum, Mexico!) I grow attached to my clients because I make bonds that aren’t easy to forget and these two are no exception. They hired my favorite team of vendors to create a magical ambiance with nothing but good vibes. Thank you Lauren & Tom, Lonie & Josh, and Tenley & Dustin for keeping me in the family. (and of course) Pearl Events, Texas pro Djs, bouquets of Austin, & Polka dots cupcakes.

When I rolled up to Naseem & Ricky’s sangeet the day before the wedding, I was greeted with the biggest of hugs from Ricky’s mother, Noreen. Five years, four months, & 2 days prior I photographed Ricky’s sister’s wedding in Puerto Rico and to this day, they treat me like a member of the family. They held their wedding at Naseem’s family ranch in Bastrop and hosted a sangeet at my favorite Austin Indian restaurant g’raj mahal. The wedding incorporated Persian traditions including a sofreh aghd and the cake knife dance. It was a truly beautiful reception just far enough out in the country to not receive cell service. There might not be anymore Nainani sibling weddings to shoot anymore but I know that this family hasn’t seen the last of me ;)

If I haven’t said it enough, I am incredibly grateful and appreciative for the interesting people I have met throughout my career. While Erin is from Texas, I didn’t actually get to meet her & Felix until we were bunked up at the Schloss Eckberg castle in the middle of December. It was very cold for my Texan blood but the Christmas market was in full force so I had plenty of mulled wine to warm me up. Christmas time in Germany is beyond charming, combine that with an adorable love story and my heart was ready to explode. Felix is from Germany, in a town not far from Dresden, but they met in a bar in El Paso, TX of all places. The German military has taken him all over but that didn’t slow them down, Erin made sure to travel to wherever he ended up stationed. Their ceremony was sweet and heartfelt but what I will never forget is the amount of love that was poured into every speech given. When I say there was not a dry eye in the house/castle, I mean it, including me. Erin’s two brothers totally melted my heart. Since the sun set at 4pm on the wedding day, we went back out for more photos of the two of them in Dresden a couple days later. MAJOR props to Erin for looking warm in all the photos considering it was a chilly 35 degrees that day. That night her family took all of us out to a traditional German dinner that ended in the hotel spa with champagne. This was one hell of a weekend I will never ever forget. Can we do it again some time? Special thanks to Tricia Hamil for helping the day run smoothly & for making it more beautiful.
