This post may be a little late but it is at least appropriate in the fact that it has almost been a year, to the date, since I shot this wedding along side Studio Damon who is based in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. My obsession with the Netherlands stemmed from my Dutch family and continued after falling in love with Amsterdam only after an overnight layover coming from Africa; which then lead to two more trips in 2014.  When I was presented with the opportunity to second shoot for Damon, it was one I could not pass up! I had a blast working on what little Dutch I know and experiencing a wedding through a different culture’s eyes. This couple certainly made their wedding their own with an actor giving a fake speech to marry them before the real officiant came out, the rings were delivered via the man in an ostrich costume, and a game of musical chairs was played so the winners could do ‘the first dance’.

Sarah & Alok are such a sweet couple. They actually live in Cleveland, Ohio but they fell in love with the idea of having a destination wedding in Austin so all their friends and family could enjoy this amazing city. Mercury Hall was the perfect setting for their relaxed yet elegant wedding which was a beautiful blend of Indian and American cultures. Becky from Pearl Events worked her magic again to bring details of both family’s together in perfect harmony with the help of Stems Floral. The brides dress design was selected at Sahil Boutique in Chicago then made in India. Since they were having an Indian-American wedding, she wanted a white or ivory gown, the traditional Indian bridal color is red, but chose to incorporate American tradition with a white gown. The gold detailing complimented the wedding color scheme perfectly. True to Austin style the food was catered by a local favorite food truck, East Side Kings and instead of a cake, they had a bunch of personal pies made by Tiny Pies. The live band, Buzz and the Blue Cats, really set the tone for the evening and brought a unique vibe to the evening.

I first met Simi & Kingsley at their vineyard engagement session in Fredricksberg, TX. I immediately could tell they both had impeccable style and that their wedding was going to be a night to remember. They had a traditional wedding ceremony in Nigeria to celebrate their heritage and this wedding in Houston Texas was a perfect blend of cultures. The reception was held at Heaven and Earth in Houston. They kicked off the evening with a emotional first dance in the center of a giant gold dance floor. From there, things kicked up a notch with some great entertainment, an energetic dance party, and fireworks to end the night with a bang.
