Lost Gulch, CO Engagement / Proposal | Kristin + Russel

Having been a wedding photographer for over 10 years now it is a bit shocking to me that it took me this long to be able to photograph an actual surprise proposal! Kristin, the venue coordinator for one of my favorite venues in Austin (the Driskill Hotel), called to schedule a portrait session out in Colorado while they were visiting for a Red Rocks show in June. Soon after, I get a call from Russell to let me know he would like to propose to her during the session. I was beyond excited to hear of this and began scheming up locations and ways we could cue each other so we both knew when it was best to go down. I came up with a cue that I won't divulge so I can hopefully keep it secret just for other future soon-to-be grooms. Russell gave all the signs of absolutely not proposing during this session, including but not limited to being extra sassy at the beginning of the shoot and pronouncing my name as "Carolyn" all the way leading up to the day of. Right after he got down on one knee that news got out that we were in cahoots all along. It was so special to be able to share in such a memorable day for them. Events like these are why I cherish my career.
