Dominican Republic town of Cabrera

For the last week we have been shooting a wedding in Cabrera, Dominican Republic. It's a small town, unspoiled by tourism, about 2ish hours north of the capitol. The culture here is extremely laid back and an amazing place to relax, almost too relaxing for a workaholic like me. We spent the first 3.5 days with our clients in the villa they rented out, Flor de Cabrera, with in house chef, bartender, huge private pool, all within walking distance of the beach. The last few days we spent by ourselves near by the villa just trying to soak in the culture and the beautiful scenery. Our last day was spent horseback riding through the rural areas of Cabrera with a man from Cuba who has been living in the DR for 5 years. He taught us so much about the culture and we found it truly fascinating, it's definitely the opposite of what I call the 'rat race' in America. For such a small island it's amazing how many languages they speak there, Spanish, English, French, & Haitian Creole. We got to hear a bit of Haitian Creole from a waiter at a restaurant, sounds similar to French by an untrained ear but with no rules, anything goes. Driving in the Dominican Republic was quite the adventure! There are a lot of motorcycles on the road and many of them have 2-4 passengers on them including young children. I leave the driving up to Ben!The photo below is of a Haitian woman and her child that Adam Grumbo & I met while searching for la panaderia, she showed us the way. I wish I could remember her name, but it was difficult for us to pronounce.This is the first of hopefully many future travel blog posts. Enjoy!-Caroline
