Hamptons Photographer Meet-up

AKA : Potluck Pow Wow - a meet-up where we all bring something to the table that we can teach everyone. Ben talked about SEO while I spoke about how to get your work featured on wedding blogs.

Okay, it wasn't really the Hamptons, but it was close enough for me. We go to 1 photography conference a year, 1 convention, and 1 workshop (which we are now working instead of taking next year). A few close-nit photographer friends decided that 3 times a year during the winter time just wasn't enough, we wanted to meet up one more time during the summer. To make it convenient, at 4 months notice, for London wedding photographer Mike Garrard, we all decided on the Hamptons in June. 19 of us shared a giant, albeit older, house with tennis court, pool, hot tub, pool table, ping pong, etc for 4 nights. Pittsburg wedding photographer, Joe Appel, lead the discussion the first night explaining what the meet-up would mean to us as photographers and those that would attend in the future. We bonded, we laughed, we taught each other through talks and through private conversation. Julie Lowry, an Atlanta wedding photographer & I stayed up one late night drinking sangria and chatting about ways we can improve our business. Our good friend and fellow Austin wedding photographer, Jenny DeMarco gave us amazing information on how to share images with vendors so they can learn to love you. Having a group of photographer friends that we can confide in and go to for advice, be it business or personal, has been invaluable. Despite a few bad apples, the wedding photographer community is an amazing one and I am proud to be a part of this industry.
